Austin police entered room 219 of the Rodeway Inn several times, but couldn't find the victim until the suspect allegedly told them to look 'inside the mattress.'
The body of a missing woman was discovered last week inside a hotel bed frame in Austin, Texas.
Jamie Wingwood, 40, has been arrested after confessing to the murder, according to an affidavit. Wingwood and Macias dated on and off for about three years, family members say, but were not currently involved. The Austin Police Department put an alert out for Wingwood's Honda Accord, which was spotted near Beaumont, Texas, on July 9. Wingwood fled the scene, leading authorities on a car chase into Louisiana that ended in a crash.
