Middletown, Connecticut, Det. Karli Travis shot and wounded the suspect in the attack.

MIDDLETOWN, Connecticut — Authorities in Connecticut have released a bodycam video showing a man armed with a hammer attacking a police officer, forcing the officer to fire several shots as she attempted to defend herself.

Travis had responded to a residence just after 6:30 a.m. after receiving reports of excessive noise and breaking glass, authorities say. Travis parked her patrol car near an intersection and began walking toward the residence. The news release says a wounded Tate went back into his home. Police soon surrounded the house and Tate later emerged from a basement hatchway and surrendered. He was treated at Hartford Hospital and was released on Monday.
