Go inside Bond No. 9’s glittering twentieth anniversary party, which featured the debut of a golden new fragrance that serves as a love letter to New York.
As any New Yorker will tell you, living in the city is a feast for the senses. From the stately stillness of Riverside Drive to the hustle and bustle of the Financial District and the salty sea air of Coney Island, every block presents an opportunity to discover a fresh new facet of our sprawling metropolis’ charm.—the homegrown perfume purveyor named for its headquarters at 9 Bond Street in downtown Manhattan—has managed to bottle this phenomenon, achieving iconic status in the process.
Founded by French perfume expert Laurice Rahmé in 2003, each Bond No. 9 fragrance pays homage to her passion for the city she calls home. On a balmy fall evening last week, Rahmé held court at the Bond No. 9 boutique in Soho to raise a glass to the legacy of the brand she built from the ground up. As guests streamed through the door, dressed in everything from natty suits to ripped denim, they were drawn to various displays of Bond No. 9’s vibrant bottles.
After two decades of creating irresistibly bold New York-inspired fragrances, Bond No. 9 is celebrating its 20th anniversary with, a new eau de parfum that pays tribute to the layered history of the place that brought the brand to life. “New York Forever is a powerful fragrance for a powerful city,” says Rahmé. Crafted by Domitille Michalon-Bertier, the luxurious scent contains notes of Sri Lankan cinnamon bark and Indonesian patchouli—an olfactory tribute to the spices traded by Manhattan’s Dutch settlers. At once nostalgic and dynamic, the fragrance’s accents of honeyed amber, vanilla, and moss are evocative of autumn in New York, and designed to leave a lasting impression.
Packaged in a luminous gold bottle with a vibrant red heart splashed across its exterior, even the look of New York Forever serves as a reminder that the rich tapestry of the city will always reign supreme. A bouquet of metallic Bond No. 9 logos, itself inspired by vintage New York City subway tokens, springs up off the bottle cap, topping off its triumphant visual design. “That signature Bond No. 9 logo is omnipresent in New York,” says Malle. “In every department store, you see it. Bond No.
