Bottoms releases in theaters August 25th.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Bottoms is a hilarious and hard-hitting sophomore effort from Shiva Baby writer/director Emma Seligman. The film stars Rachel Sennott and Ayo Edebiri, who are well-known for their work in projects like Bodies Bodies Bodies and The Bear, respectively.

But from a makeup standpoint, it was kind of my version of a tribute of those movies I grew up watching, and how I would have liked to have seen that. But, honestly, [it was about] just keeping the girls as fresh as possible, which was really easy considering they were all so young at heart. Natalie Christine Johnson: Absolutely. Just [from] reading the script, you get your idea of who you think this character is, and then once hair and costumes gets involved you get to really dive in and put that character together. I definitely did that with PJ. She was very confident, but you could tell that there was a type of innocence and also nervousness to her, as opposed to Havana , who is a cheerleader.

Natalie Christine Johnson: We used my favorite brand of blood, which is Fleet Street Drying Blood. It’s great and runny when you need it to be, and then, obviously, it dries to a point where it won't move, and it'll hold for that scene, whatever that you need. But it really is the perfect consistency. We had camera tests, we had conversations, and it was so much fun. Everyone was covered in blood, including crew.

Natalie Christine Johnson: It could be tricky, but usually when I'm reading my script, I'm making my makeup breakdown right alongside it so there's no room for error. But absolutely. With this story in particular there wasn't a real feel for a timeline, so Emma gave me full rein to put it together, and then I got together with our stunt coordinator, Deven MacNair, because I wanted everything to make sense.
