Boy Meets World star Danielle Fishel opens up about an awkward interaction with a television executive who sexualized her as a teenager.
Boy Meets World star Danielle Fishel recalls some creepy behavior from a television executive. Aired on ABC from 1993 to 2000, the sitcom centered on Cory as he comes of age alongside his scatterbrained older brother Eric , best friend Shawn , and love interest Topanga . Since much of the Boy Meets World cast was around 10 years old at the time the show started, they progressed from childhood to adulthood along with their characters over the course of the show.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT On a recent episode of her rewatch podcast Pod Meets World co-hosted by Friedle and Strong, Fishel opened up about becoming "an object of desire at such a young age" and recalled an inappropriate interaction with an unnamed TV executive which she was taken aback by. The Topanga actress did a calendar shoot at 16 years old and a male executive once told her "he had a certain calendar month in his bedroom.
As a kid, I always wanted to be older. I always wanted to be an adult. I wanted to be seen as an adult. So getting adult male attention as a teenage girl felt like — I didn't think of it as being creepy or weird. I felt like it was validation that I was mature and I was an adult and I was capable and that they were seeing me the way I was, not for the number on a page. And in hindsight, that is absolutely wrong. I should not have been outwardly talked about at 14, 15, 16 years old.
Boy Meets World May Have Been A Problematic Set It's unclear if the man with whom Fishel had the creepy interaction was a Boy Meets World producer or an executive at ABC or Disney. However, there's a history of inappropriate behavior behind the scenes of the sitcom. Boy Meets World's Maitland Ward, who played Rachel in seasons 6 and 7, previously opened up about her negative experiences on the show. She was asked to try on lingerie for producers on more than one occasion.
The interaction with the TV executive isn't even the only uncomfortable moment Fishel has opened up about on Pod Meets World. She previously talked about the episode in which Cory and Topanga plan to have sex with each other for the first time on the night of their senior prom. Strong was "very upset" with the show for not including a discussion between the two characters about safe sex. Fishel also recalled "feeling very uncomfortable the whole week for similar reasons.
