U.K. retail sales jump in June, lifting beleaguered British pound
British retail spending was surprisingly strong in June, according to data released Thursday — with shoppers seeking out discounts at charity shops.
The ONS reported consumers reacting well to summer sales at clothing stores following a slow uptake in the previous month. Second-hand stores had a particularly strong month, the report said.
