After a week of local media kvetching about veteran Rex Burkhead’s strangely high workload in Week 1, he didn’t get a carry Sunday. Instead, rookie Dameon Pierce got 15 totes for 69 yards, running hard and showing why he should be the featured back weekly.The Texans defense played an inspired first three quarters, bending at times, but not breaking. They frustrated Russell Wilson, who hardly looked like a quarterback worth the bounty Denver traded for him. Rookie cornerback Derek Stingley Jr.
It’s been bad going back to the fourth quarter of the opener. Sunday brought a whopping 234 total yards and only one trip into the red zone. The play-calling was drab, to put it charitably. The Texans don’t have many playmakers and that’s really showed through two weeks. Quarterback Davis Mills underwhelmed. O.J. Howard, who scored twice last week, only had one target Sunday.
