Carlsbad Police Department officers arrested a man in connection to the brush fire which sparked near the Buena Vista Lagoon Saturday afternoon, burning 10 acres and evacuating residents.
The fire was reported at around 1 p.m. in the 2400 block of Carlsbad Boulevard. Residents reported seeing smoke from Interstate 5. At 2 p.m., police stated the fire had been contained at around 10 acres. Police investigation found a witness who saw the man, David Prosser, a 59-year-old man from Carlsbad, light an object and throw it into the brush area off Buena Vista Lagoon. Officers found Prosser a short distance from the scene of the crime and arrested him for resisting officers. He has been booked into the Vista Detention Facility for arson and resisting an officer.
California Highway Patrol, Oceanside Police Department, San Diego Sheriff's Department and Oceanside Fire Department worked together to put out the fire. No injuries and damaged structures were reported.
