Democrat lawmakers visiting COP26 on Tuesday expressed confidence in Congress’ ability to pass President Biden’s key legislation

“It is not a matter of if, but when we pass Build Back Better. We fully intend to get that done,” said Rep. Joe Neguse speaking along with fellow House Democrats on climate action in the U.S. and the power of climate mobilization, indicating that could happen as soon as next week, adding: “Failure really is not an option.”

Rep. Sean Casten also expressed urgency to get the legislation passed: “We left Washington with the Bipartisan Infrastructure framework in place, with an agreement with the Senate in principle to go and get Build Back Better done, and all of us are going to be furious if the Senate drops the ball on us.”

Seeking to distance themselves from the Trump Administration, which withdrew the U.S. from the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change, U.S. dignitaries from Biden to Pelosi have repeatedly assured COP26 that “America is back” on the climate leadership stage. Rep.
