Elsewhere in the West family plot is George, a rancher and founder of the Central Texas town that bears his name. He’s just below a massive cross.died in 1926, among the hundreds attending his funeral were some of the most prestigious families in South Central Texas: Tobin, Frost and others. But few remember the 37-year-old who was seriously injured in a car crash in 1976 and needed the care of a physician for a year. She died of an overdose in her Beverly Hills mansion in March 1977.
She also had a lot of time and money. She once dressed up in $200,000 worth of jewelry and a $30,000 mink coat. She hired a chauffeur to drive her to a swanky Hollywood restaurant and made a grand entrance. She then ordered a hamburger to go. Sandra and Ike were often spotted in Vegas, Hollywood and San Antonio. In the Alamo City, locals could see her in cowgirl garb as she helped the West family bid on livestock at the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo.
Shortly after she died in 1977, her estate was the subject of a lengthy and complicated legal battle in which separate wills were produced by two parties seeking her $5 million fortune .
