The bye week came at the earliest possible point in the season for the Seahawks, but it might just be the best possible time.
Sure, it sets up now 13 straight weeks with games, but the Hawks were especially battered early on. This gave them a chance to come out of it healthier than they've been in weeks.
"We’re better than we were. There are some guys that are going to get a chance to jump back out. It helps anybody that got banged up in the game so we’re hoping that this will be a really productive week for returning a few guys. We’ll see how it goes," Pete Carroll said, adding later. "I never gripe one way or the other when the bye comes because you can’t do anything about it, so we just try to make the most of it.
Carroll added key points on several players with Charles Cross returning to practice Monday. Jamal Adams, he said, was expected to clear concussion protocol by Tuesday paving the way for him to play Sunday at Cincinnati.Other players like Abe Lucas may not be ready just yet, but fellow linemen Damien Lewis and Phil Haynes have a chance to play while Tre Brown returned to practice too.
If there was a potential issue with the bye week it's that it came while the Seahawks were looking better and better each week in the middle of a three-game win streak. The expectation however is the Seahawks are just playing their brand of football as expected and a bye week no matter when it occurred wouldn't impact that.“I really liked the last three weeks. The second half of the first game, that still kills me that we were the way we were.
They'll try to keep it going with a 10 a.m. kickoff against the Bengals in Cincinnati before returning home to take on the Arizona Cardinals at Lumen Field on Oct. 22.
