California is in the grips of a brutal heat wave, and meteorologists said Sunday that it's going to be even more brutal than expected.
Wanless said the weather service office is eyeing downtown Sacramento’s 2006 record of 11 consecutive days of daytime high temperatures of 100 degrees or more. “There’s potential we could break that streak,” Wanless said. “There’s a lot of uncertainty for the end of next week.”
The weather service said monsoon moisture could push into the Sierra Nevada on Wednesday, bringing a 5% to 20% chance of thunderstorms south of Highway 50 through next weekend. In the Los Angeles area, Wednesday was originally expected to mark the end of well-above normal temperatures, but weather service forecaster David Sweet said Sunday morning that recent trends in the computer models show that Thursday could be another scalding hot day.
