The woman was about a mile and a half up the Romero Canyon Trail near Santa Barbara when the snake bit her foot.
The woman was about a mile and a half up the 6-mile loop trail when the snake bit her in the foot, Montecito Fire Protection District officials said. Theresponded and transported her to the hospital via helicopter by approximately 10:15 a.m. Meanwhile, firefighters hiked back down the trail with the woman’s dog and brought it to Santa Barbara County Animal Services, which will reunite the pair, officials said.
SFGATE reached out for additional details regarding the woman’s condition, but fire officials said they did not have more information at this time. Commentsfrom relatives appeared to say the woman has since been released from the hospital and is recovering at home. While the firefighters were on the trail in the Santa Catalina Mountains, they also discovered a bear on an adjacent path, noting that sightings have increased in the area in recent weeks.
“As the weather warms up, wildlife is coming out,” fire officials said. “Please use caution while hiking, be hyper vigilant of your surroundings and maintain awareness of your location.” TRAIL RESCUE: At about 9:10AM Saturday, Montecito firefighters were dispatched to the Romero Canyon Trail. A 26-year-old woman was hiking with her dog when she was bitten by a rattlesnake on her foot. SBC Air Support Unit, Helicopter 308, responded and hoisted the hiker out.
