If Democrats want to regain the faith of the voters they lost, they should look at their own economic blind spots—including the people the establishment ignores

Now, I may lack front-echelon experience as a factory worker, but I have visited lots of factories around the world, and a poor country isn’t like a poor person. Speak with a factory owner in China, and you’re likely to meet someone with nice houses and cars who’s just as wealthy as his counterparts in the United States. He benefits from lax enforcement of local labor laws and knows that he can save money if he allows his workers to breathe in benzene or work without machine guards.
The REMF problem on the left isn’t confined to what policy gets pushed. It also extends to what gets seen. One of the more significant recent stories of the wage earner’s plight in America, where several dozen coal miners found themselves taking matters into their own hands when it came to enforcing a bit of fairness. When their employer, Blackjewel, filed for bankruptcy, the company failed to pay them their final paycheck.
