Even after the surprising 2022 season they had, one of the New York Giants’ primary needs was pretty clearly getting a true No. 1 wide receiver. It’s something that’s felt missing from their roster since the team traded away Odell Beckham Jr… four years ago.
New York needs someone to step up in a big way for the quarterback they’ve signed to a four-year extension. Last year’s lead receivers by receptions wereSaquon Barkley and wide receiver Richie James, who is now in Kansas City.
This is the state of the wide receivers room that Hyatt joins as one of its newest members, along with undrafted free agentout of West Virginia. Even after bringing back so many pending free agents and bringing in even more, the spot of a No. 1 wide receiver is still open for the taking. Hyatt will get the chance to take that spot in training camp and during his rookie season, but as a third-round pick, it’s still not a sure thing.
