Can thermography detect breast cancer? Here are the limitations:
A 41-year-old English woman named Bal Gill visited the Camera Obscura and World of Illusions in Edinburgh, Scotland, in May. During her visit, she entered a room with a thermal camera that can detect the levels of heat coming from your body. Here is an example of an image that was taken of her, posted on the Cameria Obscura instagram account:
In fact, thermography of any type alone is not a good way to screen for breast cancer. Back in February, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a warning entitled, “ “There is no valid scientific data to demonstrate that thermography devices, when used on their own or with another diagnostic test, are an effective screening tool for any medical condition including the early detection of breast cancer or other diseases and health conditions. Mammography is the most effective breast cancer screening method and the only method proven to increase the chance of survival through earlier detection.
