Canadian polar bears are dying at an alarming rate in the Western Hudson Bay, an area that includes the town of Churchill, which is known as 'the Polar Bear Capital of the World.'

Researchers have found an alarming death rate among polar bears inan area that includes a town called"the Polar Bear Capital of the World."

The new survey found a mere 618 polar bears remaining in the area as of 2021, a drop from the 842 that were found in the same area in 2016, when the area was last surveyed. The decline has persisted for decades, showing since the 1980s that the number of bears in the region has fallen by nearly 50%, the researchers found.
