Authorities said the carjackers led police on a chase from Newark to Paterson.
Four armed teenagers were arrested after leading police on a pursuit from Newark to Paterson and then crashing, authorities said.first spotted a vehicle in the area of Hunterdon and Renner avenues that had been reported carjacked, according to city police.joined the chase after getting a “be on the lookout” alert from Newark police.
The driver of the carjacked vehicle got off Route 80 in Passaic County at Exit 58B and then continued onto Madison Avenue in Paterson. Finally, the chase ended when the stolen car crashed after blowing though a red light on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way, State Police said. Four boys — two 14-year-olds, a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old — were arrested and charged with a slew of weapons offenses as well as eluding. All were brought to the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center.
