🚨🌲 Before you embark on your next national park adventure, Rocking the RV Life podcasters Jeff and Patti Kinzbach have a list of crucial safety tips you should know.

In 2022, 312 million people visited our national parks. Officially there are 63 national parks. However, there are 360 additional national park sites. These do not use the “National Park” designation in their names.

We have visited many national parks and love each one, but Arches, Zion, Acadia, Joshua Tree, Badlands, Theodore Roosevelt, The Grand Canyon, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Cuyahoga Valley, and Death Valley stand out. In late August our next traveling adventure will take us to Glacier, Mount Rainier, North Cascades, Olympic National Parks and more.

Earlier this month, a 57-year-old woman died hiking in Grand Canyon National Park. Temperatures were over 100 degrees. A few weeks later, a 71-year-old man collapsed and died in California’s Death Valley National Park, where temperatures were at 121 degrees. Sadly, it doesn’t end there. A 14-year-old boy died at the end of June after hiking in Big Bend National Park in Texas. The temperatures had reached at least 110 degrees.

The National Park Service has many warning signs about hiking in the heat, cold and everything in between. You can’t miss them, and many are graphic to express the point. They even have tips on how to avoid heat-related illnesses, 2 of which say it all:
