Ruth Lee-Morris claims workers at Sunset Memorial Park in Pennsauken placed a headstone on a different plot from where Eugene Morris II was laid to rest.
A woman has sued Sunset Memorial Park in Camden County, claiming the cemetery has been unable to tell her where her son is buried.A mother has filed a lawsuit against a cemetery in South Jersey, alleging the memorial park lost track of where they buried her 38-year-old son after he died two years ago.
The suit was filed against Harleigh Cemetery Association, which owns Sunset Memorial Park, and Cemetery Development Company, Inc., which manages the businesses. The plots were intended for her son and eventually for Lee-Morris and her husband, Eugene Sr., upon their deaths, the lawsuit says.Lee-Morris attended her son’s burial and went back on May 25, 2021, with family members to tend to the grave. But when they arrived, landscaping work was underway and all temporary grave markers had been pulled and “placed in a pile,” the suit states.
“Having called the office, this gravedigger went to a specific headstone while on the phone and began counting plots before arriving at a certain plot and claiming that this was the position of son’s plot,” the suit states. The suit says Lee-Morris left a detailed message for the cemetery’s main office explaining the situation, but that as of this week she has not heard back from the cemetery, its owners or the parent company.
