Calm is hard to come by in an environment of bright lights, colliding players and screaming coaches among cheering fans and marching bands.
Chaminade kicker Ryon Sayeri made a pair of 53-yard field goals in the team’s win over San Diego Cathedral Catholic on Friday, Aug. 25. “I like their field a lot,” Sayeri said. “Having nets behind the field goal posts, it makes it feel like the field is just 10 times shorter than it actually is. So it’s just like, all visual. That’s one of my favorite places to kick.”
Sayeri’s talent was on full display when he qualified for the All American Bowl, which is slated for Jan. 4. He was up against No. 1 kicker Kyle Lemmermann in a last-man-standing competition. He doesn’t mind having the responsibility, but he is looking forward to having a special teams coordinator someday. The recruiting process can be painfully slow for kickers but Sayeri is hoping for USC, which is coincidentally where Affholter went. He’s been to every one of the Trojans’ home games this season.
