In the Associated Press Top 25 poll, Georgia overtook the Tide for the top spot.
A Saturday college football fans won’t forget for some time led to predictable if still drastic changes in this week’s coaches and AP polls.
Alabama stayed atop the coaches poll lists following its one-point win over Texas. The uneven play led to most voters changing their stance on the top team in the country. In the Associated Press Top 25, Georgia overtook the Tide. The Crimson Tide earned 39 first-place votes in the coaches poll, down from 57 last week. It had just nine in the AP poll compared to Georgia’s 53. It’s the first time in program history the Bulldogs are ranked No. 1 in September.
Ohio State stayed at No. 3 after a blowout win over Arkansas State in both. Notre Dame continued its freefall after an upset loss to Marshall and is unranked. Texas A&M dropped to 22nd in each ranking after it became Appalachian State’s latest shocker. Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns impressed against the Tide with a backup quarterback in for a majority of the contest. AP voters noticed and bumped Texas into the rankings at No. 21.
