The shooting occurred following a domestic incident in Watsontown on Wednesday morning.
WATSONTOWN – A 19-year-old Watsontown man has been accused of firing the shot that wounded a state trooper in Northumberland County on Wednesday morning.He also was wounded in an exchange of gunfire with the trooper who was looking for him in the aftermath of a domestic incident in the 100 block of East Fourth Street in the borough.
Shaheen was admitted to a hospital in critical condition but by afternoon was listed as stable, they said. No one was in the home when police arrived but they said they later spoke with two females who reported a 19-year-old male had physically assaulted one of them, threatened the other and brandished what was believed to be a firearm.
Police said they observed him run into a field where the exchange of gunfire took place about 8:15 a.m.The schools were not locked down because a spokesperson it was learned from police the incident was over, a person was in custody and there was no further threat.Troopers and borough police executed a search warrant at the residence when the domestic incident occurred but did not release any details.
