Chicago Amtrak trains delayed, cancelled at Union Station amid communication issues
At least six Amtrak trains departing Chicago were canceled Friday afternoon and several more delayed as communications issues affected the transit agency.
Some trains are running at reduced speeds, while others are delayed by 30 to 60 minutes, Amtrak said in a statement Friday.“Intermittent communications issues on the nationwide network are causing train delays,” the transit agency said. The delays and cancellations have affected a variety of train lines, including the Milwaukee-bound Hiawatha route, the Quincy-bound Carl Sandburg route, the St. Louis-bound Lincoln Service route and the West Coast-bound California Zephyr.Several social media users described waiting at Chicago’s Union Station for hours with little clarity on whether affected trains would eventually depart.
An Amtrak spokesperson was not available for immediate comment on the service issues late Friday afternoon.
