Fried cauliflower sandwich, anyone? (via EaterCarolinas)
On Monday, February 13, fried chicken chain Chick-fil-A will begin to test a fried cauliflower sandwich in Greensboro, North Carolina, Denver, and Charleston. The creation is a marinated and breaded hunk of “tender filet cut from a whole, real cauliflower” on a bun with two dill pickle chips. The result looks very similar to the original Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich.
According to Leslie Neslage, director of menu and packaging at Chick-fil-A, customers were asking for more vegetables and “a plant-forward entrée that tasted uniquely Chick-fil-A,” so after four years of research, this is what the fast-food giant came up with — a big hunk of coniferous vegetable between some buttered-up buns.
Will vegetarians go for this? The sandwich is not vegan, as it involves eggs and dairy. Right now, Chick-fil-A offers a smattering of salads and waffle fries for non-meat eaters. The three test markets will determine if the cauliflower sandwich goes nationwide.
