Authorities in the Henan province of the People's Republic of China are requiring religious residents to register with their 'Smart Religion' app in order to worship.

The regulation system is required for all citizens seeking to worship, regardless of religion — citizens can select their affiliation with a church, Buddhist temple, mosque, and others.The ruins of a demolished Catholic Church are seen in Puyang, in China's central Henan province on Aug. 13, 2018. While not explicitly illegal, religious worship is increasingly dangerous in China as government officials crack down on faith communities found unsatisfactory in patriotism or cultural assimilation..
