Nike's Greater China business could be at risk because of a spat between the NBA and the region.Other brands, including Vans and Tiffany, have been walking a fine line between not upsetting consumers and keeping a strong business in China.
Nike did $6.21 billion in sales in Greater China in fiscal 2019, up 24%, excluding currency, from the prior year, according to financial reports.following a tweet made by Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey, in which he showed support for the anti-government protests in Hong Kong. The tweet, which was later deleted, drew strong criticism in the world's second-largest economy.A representative from Nike wasn't immediately available to respond to CNBC's request for comment.
At least one analyst has already issued a note to clients saying he doesn't expect there will be any adverse impact for Nike because of the spat, calling any concerns "overblown."
