All the records set at the 2021 CMAAwards
Stapleton won album of the year for the third time for Starting Over. That’s the most wins in this category by any artist in this century. Since 2000, George Strait, Miranda Lambert and Eric Church have each won album of the year twice.
Going back over CMA history, which dates to 1967, Stapleton is one of only four artists to win album of the year three or more times . Strait is out front with five wins, followed by Ronnie Milsap with four. Johnny Cash is tied with Stapleton with three wins. Stapleton also won both single of the year and song of the year for “Starting Over.” He won both awards three years ago for “Broken Halos.” He co-wrote both songs with Mike Henderson. They are just the second songwriting team to win song of the year for two different songs. Don Schlitz and Paul Overstreet won for co-writing Randy Travis’ hits “On the Other Hand” and “Forever and Ever, Amen” . This are Stapleton’s 11th and 12th CMA Awards.
