Vincent Vo founded the annual movie experience as part of downtown Houston's Artist's Warehouse Crawl.

But, as an Asian-American, Vo also wants the films he screens to feature minority representation. “What I look for in a feature film is something that will attract an audience, but also something that fits in with, like, something that’s not typically seen or something that’s more of a cult classic,” he says. “We’ve tried to go with films with non-white directors, non-white casts, entertaining sci-fi, foreign films.
Local filmmaker Stephanie Saint Sanchez submitted a short, titled “Queer Bitz,” in 2019. She got hip to Cinema Crawl when Vo volunteered for Senorita Cinema, an all-Latina film festival she founded. Now, she’s become something of a regular; another short of hers will be showing at this year’s Crawl. “I’ve been a fan of ArtCrawl,” she says, “and I thought it was cool for Vincent to be inspired to do Cinema Crawl.
