Tomeu Vadell, Gustavo Cardenas, Jorge Toledo, Alirio Zambrano, Jose Luis Zambrano and Jose Angel Pereira -- nicknamed the"Citgo 6" -- were transferred from the notorious detention facility where they have been held without trial to house arrest earlier this week. Their advocates see it as a potentially positive move, but they say they will not rest until the men are returned home to the United States.
The US recognizes Juan Guiado, not embattled President Nicolas Maduro, as the leader of Venezuela and has not had any representation in the country since US personnel were ordered to depart in March.More than two years after they were arrested and detained on corruption charges, the men have yet to stand trial and were only granted a preliminary hearing in June. A hearing scheduled for early December was postponed. The Maduro government did not reply to requests for comment about the case.
