“We’re bringing City Girls to another level,” JT of City Girls explained
Even on a grainy nighttime video call from Los Angeles, the tour de force presence of City Girls rappers Yung Miami and JT is palpable.
Yung Miami goes with the pivot. “I love boys. I do anything for a man. If a man tell me to shave my head, I will be bald tomorrow.”Both were born and raised in Miami. 29-year-old JT is from the neighborhood of Liberty City, and 28-year-old Yung Miami is from Opa-Locka. They met as children at Carol City Middle School, before they started rapping together as young adults.
This all being said, one can’t help but feel City Girls hasn’t yet had a chance to hit their full stride. There are reasons for this. In 2018, JT went to prison for credit card fraud. When she was released, the COVID-19 pandemic struck soon thereafter. Only now, after four long years, does it seem like they have no obstructions in their way. “Today we finally feel like we can do full-out us,” JT says. “There’s nothing to stop us.
