The City of Katy Dog Park is about to have a massive revamp. Katy City Council on Monday...

Katy City CouncilThe main improvement to the park will be the addition of a shaded area. The shaded space will be in the middle of the park and feature four six-foot benches, city documents show.It will also be the focal point of the park, said Kevin Browne, the city’s parks and recreations director.

“This will be now where we do the dog events for the city,” Browne said. “When people visit, they can sit in the middle of the park under that shade structure and be looking out and be able to see their dog anywhere in the park.” City council lauded the project, which is funded through the parks and recreation budget as part of a new Parks, Trails and Recreation Master Plan.Do you know an outstanding Houston-area student? These new improvements are intended to elevate the public off-leash park to a destination-like status, said newly re-elected city council member Janet Corte. “The improvements we’re making to the city parks is one of my favorite things about our plans for the future of the city, and this dog park especially is something that’s really going to draw people to our parks,” Corte said.
