Residents gathered for a vigil almost exactly one week after César Eduardo López-Sandoval was fatally shot in North Clairemont Community Park
shortly before noon on Feb. 19. Family, fans and the greater Clairemont community are all grieving the death of the young rapper, whose artist name was Alo Bandz.
Next to a set of bleachers, a canopy tent protected a memorial to López-Sandoval, where a Padres cap hung above dozens of roses, carnations and sunflowers. At the center lay a framed photo of him in a suit. On a nearby light post, someone had taped more pictures of him. Cyndi Jones, pastor of Clairemont Lutheran Church, recalled hearing the helicopters looking for the shooters just as her church service was letting out last week.Campbell urged witnesses to come forward to police to help with the investigation into López-Sandoval’s killing.

Cinnamen Kubricky called for more lighting in the darker parts of the park and for the rec center to be open on Sundays so children have somewhere to go if they need to seek safety. She said she and her granddaughter had intended to go to the park last Sunday afternoon but after they saw crying families running from the park and learned what happened, they went inside and prayed instead.
