Democratic lawmakers seek additional justices for the nation's high court. Allegations against Thomas is one example they cited for supporting the move.

by ProPublica—a nonprofit investigative journalism organization—that alleges Thomas and his wife, Ginni, had taken numerous trips over the past 20 years paid for by Texas billionaire Harlan Crow. The report cites interviews and documents in describing how the couple allegedly took trips on Crow's private jet and yacht and failed to disclose many of them.

"Justice Thomas should resign from the Supreme Court of the United States. We have to remind him that we have a system of constitutional checks and balances, not checks for balances," Markey said during a press conference on the Judiciary Act."That is what we must now fight to ensure happens in our country."

At least one of those Democrats said allegations against Thomas is a reason to support the court's expansion.
