Also on hand for opening night, Jan. 13, will be the playwrights — songwriter/composers Linda and Laura Good, twins who co-founded the alt/pop band“We have had the privilege to work directly with the writers to craft the high school adaptation, and we are very excited for its high school premiere,” Michelle Smith said.
“Ladyship” premiered at the New York Musical Festival in 2019, where it was a finalist for outstanding lead performer, supporting performer and overall design.Linda Good is based in Los Angeles. Laura Good, who now resides in Virginia, was living in Australia in the 2000s when she heard stories about female convicts who were sent Down Under to populate the new colony.
Clear Brook senior Raleigh Patterson, the production’s dramaturg, did extensive research into the time in which the Goods set the show. The assistant dramaturg is a freshman, Paige Dolby. Asa Smith said the dramaturgs have helped their fellow thespians understand the culture in which the women were subjected to sexual harassment during their treacherous sea journey.Don Maines is a freelance writer who can be reached at [email protected]
