CNN chairman and CEO Chris Licht said he wasn’t prepared for the intense level of scrutiny when he took the job leading the embattled cable news network a year ago.
CNN chairman and CEO Chris Licht said he wasn’t prepared for the “absolute level of scrutiny” that the media has focused on his tenure since he took the helm a year ago — and admitted it has felt like “a smack in the face.”
“The one part of the job that has proven itself to be a little bit more of a smack in the face [more] than I probably would have prepared myself for is just the absolute level of scrutiny,” he continued. Licht took the high-stakes job to try to reinvigorate the ratings-challenged, third-place network, last May, but so far he hasn’t made much of a dent.
For instance, when Roe v. Wade was overturned by the Supreme Court last June, Licht made sure CNN anchors and correspondents checked their tone, as to not say “this is a horrible day.”
