Columbus City Council on Monday will consider adding a ShotSpotter detector to cover the Wedgewood Village Apartments area at a cost of $44,800.
The proposal before the City Council would authorizeto modify an existing contract with ShotSpotter, Inc. to expand the current coverage area of the gunfire detection, alert and analysis program by 0.64 square miles in the Wedgewood Village vicinity, for a cost of $44,800.
ShotSpotter detectors automatically alert authorities when shots are fired, which can help speed up police response to gunfire, though the technology also has drawn criticism.at gun violence in the Wedgewood Village complex last month.
