Sometimes good intentions just aren’t good enough when it comes to culture wars.
Giuliani, once “America’s mayor” after the 9/11 terror attacks on the twin towers at the World Trade Center in New York City, was praised by Americans. In 2002, a year after the attacks, he had a 76% approval rating.
Since the plan to hold the event at the city-owned old Highland Park Country Club went viral, snarky trolls have taken the city and residents to task for what they see as that all-encompassing, but not defined, term: wokeness. This despite similar events having been held often in the past across Lake County, but with little attached publicity.
Like a program sponsored a few years back by a central Lake County church, where teens signed up for a weekend of living in cardboard boxes to simulate what it might be like to be homeless. No one yelled “woke” when that learning experience was held. Perhaps that was the audience organizers were targeting to increase awareness when they proposed the free “poverty simulation” in Highland Park, one of the wealthier suburbs not only in Lake County, but the Chicago region.
