Vivian Lin found investors who rescued indoor football club; affordability, family atmosphere are features
Against odds that were taller than any building in the Midway District, the San Diego Strike Force indoor football team Monday will open its season with a 7:05 p.m. game at Pechanga Arena versus the sport’s marquee franchise, the Arizona Rattlers.
The pandemic canceled the Strike Force’s 2020 and 2021 seasons, further imperiling a military-themed club whose hasty launch produced a 1-13 record andIt was during the pandemic that Lin, who’d taken a job in business development and player engagement in September 2019, pitched Roy Choi, the team’s Texas-based owner, on pursuing fans through digital means such as a Strike Force app.
The outcome revived a franchise she said runs an operating budget of about $2 million, numbers 12 front-office employees and calls upon some 125 folks to make games happen. The Strike Force’s opener last Monday sent Lin, a Bay Area native and San Diego resident since mid-1998, to San Jose. Fellow Cal alum Marshawn Lynch, the former NFL running back and a co-owner of a new IFL team, introduced himself beforehand. Lynch’s brother Davonte Sapp-Lynch is a Strike Force running back.
