Community celebrates Klein ISD Police Chief David Kimberly ahead of June retirement

Lone Star College announced the selection of Michael Burns as the new vice president of instruction at LSC-North Harris.Members of the community, local law enforcement and officials came together last month to celebrate Klein ISD Police Chief David Kimberly ahead of his June retirement.

Kimberly came to the school district in 1995, before which he worked for the Montgomery County Constables Office Precinct 4, according to a news announcement on the Klein ISD website. In Klein ISD, he worked his way up through the ranks, serving as a patrol officer, campus officer, sergeant, captain and chief — the position he’s held since 2014.

“His 27 years of dedicated service and determination in keeping our students, staff, and community safe speak volumes about his genuine love and care for our Klein Family,” Klein ISD Superintendent Jenny McGown said in the announcement.“This is more than a job,” he said. “My journey as Chief coming to a close feels like I’m reaching the end of a good book that I just don’t want to put down. Leaving is bittersweet, but I’m ready for the next book.

Burns has been filling the role as interim since October but was previously the campus’ dean of career and applied technologies — a position he held since 2015. For three years, he was also the director of corporate college for Lone Star College System. “I look forward to continuing to serve our students as the Vice President of Instruction and helping them reach their academic goals,” Burns said in the announcement. “As interim, I met with faculty members and learned some of the nuances within different divisions and departments across the college that I had little interaction with as the Dean of Career and Applied technology.”
