After years of decline, enrollment at community colleges is finally seeing an increase.
shows a 0.5% increase this year for spring enrollment at public, community colleges with 22,000 more students enrolling this spring compared to last spring."Community college just took the biggest hit on enrollment under COVID," explained Neal McCluskey, the director of the Cato Institute's Center for Educational Freedom.This spring there were just over 4 million.
"I'm going to go to a community college called Midlands Tech to study Forensic Psychology," said Alana Nurse. "I wanted to go into this field because I have a big passion for helping kids who are in abusive homes, and they can't fight for themselves. So I want to fight for them."She was going to head to a four-year college but opted for a cheaper option to complete her core classes.People like her are helping drive the boost in enrollment at community colleges.
The education expert said it is important to remember that this is only a piece of data, so it does not capture the entire picture.
