Power was shut off to 33,000 Con Edison customers in Brooklyn to prevent a bigger outage Sunday night. By 6 a.m. Monday, the number was down to 19,919.
By James Fanelli July 22, 2019 7:13 am ET Consolidated Edison Inc. said Monday that it had restored power to half of its 33,000 customers in southeast Brooklyn who had suffered an outage during one of the hottest nights of the summer.
Con Edison said Monday that its crews had been in affected area since Sunday night and were repairing equipment. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said he was pushing the utility to get power back as fast as possible. New York Police Department officers were deployed Sunday night to neighborhoods in southeast Brooklyn to keep residents safe and to respond to any emergency, according to Mr. de Blasio.
