A hole in the middle of Hohman Avenue proved too big an obstacle to a pair fleeing police in a stolen car Friday night.
Christopher Mercado, 26, of Hobart, is charged with resisting law enforcement but defendant uses a vehicle, a Level 6 felony; theft of a motor vehicle component part, a Level 6 felony; and misdemeanor reckless driving at unreasonable high speed. His passenger, Tyler Q. Redd of Gary, was charged with misdemeanor unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle.The chase started in Munster before heading west into Illinois and eventually ending in Hammond.
The officer activated his emergency lights to follow the HHR, which exited I-80, driving over a grass patch to get onto Indianapolis Boulevard, records state. The HHR reached speeds of up to 110 mph as it headed toward the Illinois state line.
