The man admitted Monday that he stole $70,000 from a Toms River homeowner, officials said.
A contractor admitted Monday that he stole $70,000 from a Toms River homeowner who had entrusted him to remodel the first floor of his home, authorities said.
In May 2021, the Toms River Township Police Department was contacted by the Ocean County Department of Consumer Affairs with regard to a complaint lodged by the homeowner against Crawford, who was trading as Hercules Renovations, LLC, the office said. Crawford spent more than $40,000 of the downpayment on gaming activities in Atlantic City and about $30,000 on personal, unspecified items, the office said.
