An indictment returned by a grand jury at the federal courthouse in Santa Ana charged Chou of 45 counts of obstructing free exercise of religious beliefs by force, which prosecutors say resulted in one death and attempts to kill 44 others through the use of a gun, explosives or fire. Gonzalez was shot in the confrontation and has been found not competent to stand trial.
