As the conflict in the Middle East continues to escalate, tensions have risen in Central New York following remarks made by Cornell University associate professor Russell Rickford. During a Sunday rally at Ithaca Commons, Rickford called Hamas' attack on Israel "exhilarating" and "energizing.
I’m a Jewish Cornell student on campus, I’m feeling outraged, I'm feeling extremely scared, angry, upset, sad. I mean these are outrageous comments that Professor Rickford to say the massacre, the biggest Jewish massacre since the Holocaust is invigorating and energizing is absolutely despicable to me.
While students recognize the importance of freedom of speech, they are also calling for consequences for what some perceive as justifying terrorism.
