Councilmember JoeLaCavaD1 says Implementation is key to the success of the Unauthorized Camping Ordinance

SAN DIEGO – More than 2,000 homeless people were counted living on the streets of downtown San Diego one night in May, a record high.

The monthly result was released the same day as the results of an unrelated annual Point-in-Time countywide count which found a 22% increase in the homeless population, totaling over 10,000 across San Diego County. City Councilmember Joe LaCava joined KUSI’s Paul Rudy on Good Morning San Diego ahead of the vote to outline why he believes implementation is the key to success for the ordinance.“At the April 14 meeting where we first considered the Ordinance, I requested a wide range of information to be presented to Council prior to a final vote, including a comprehensive shelter strategy. Today, Mayor Gloria delivered a comprehensive shelter strategy and a San Diego Police Department enforcement strategy.
