Police said the 43-year-old woman suffered from mental health issues and refused to stop living in the truck despite her family’s pleas.
After not hearing from her two days, members of her family went to the truck and found the pair unresponsive.
First responders were called on the scene around 6:30 p.m. Monday and the couple was pronounced dead shortly afterward. A charcoal grill was found next to the couch. Police said they were told the woman and her boyfriend, 60, used it to stay warm, but it did not appear to have been used recently, the news site said.
“Right now we don’t know the cause of death - if it’s carbon monoxide poisoning from living in the back of that box truck, we don’t know if they died from exposure, because it’s cold at night,” Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said to 6ABC. “We’re not sure because there were no obvious signs of trauma.”If you purchase a product or register for an account through one of the links on our site, we may receive compensation.
