Pride Night will be held Friday when the Coyotes face the Los Angeles Kings

TEMPE, AZ — The Arizona Coyotes will be the first NHL team this season to host a Pride night after the league has reversed its stance on a controversial rule on symbolic tape used on hockey sticks."After consultation with the NHL Players' Association and the NHL Player Inclusion Coalition, players will now have the option to voluntarily represent social causes with their stick tape throughout the season.

It comes after Arizona Coyotes' defenseman Travis Dermott became the first player in the league to use Pride tape on his stick in defiance of the league's order, according to ESPN. An NHL spokesperson also told ESPN there wasn't any announcement from the league's hockey operations department regarding the incident. The NHLPA also did not have any information.

He used the tape to support the LGBTQIA+ community in Saturday's home opener win against the Anaheim Ducks. This Friday, the Coyotes will host their Pride Night when the Los Angeles Kings come to Mullett Arena.
