Crews are working to rerail the LIRR cars that went off track yesterday in Jamaica, Queens before they can begin repairs. elijahwestbrook has the latest on what that means for your commute:

said the train took off from Grand Central Madison and was headed to Hempstead. Eight cars were knocked off the tracks in an area called"hall interlocking," a network of signals and tracks that allow trains to switch direction.

Officials said commuters should expect delays, congestion and reduced speeds for the Friday morning commute around the derailment area. Eastbound trains were bypassing the Hillside, Hollis and Queens Village stations. "We have damage to the infrastructure, to the tracks and the ties. That work has to be done over the weekend," MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber said."We're shooting to bring that track entirely back into service by the time Monday comes around."Eastbound trains are bypassing Hillside, Hollis, and Queens Village; limited shuttle bus service is being provided from Jamaica.
